Adrian and Baldwin - towns in Michigan

Picture
In 1994 I travelled for a while after camp ended with my pal Steve Parker – I went to Washington DC for a few days, then on to New York for a few days and then on up to Buffalo where I crossed into Canada at Niagara Falls. After the falls I went up into Toronto where Steve and I parted company and I headed to Michigan state (after travelling back to the US via Windsor Falls).

Bizarrely, after leaving a lone Parker, I went to stay with a family of Parkers (no relation) in Romulus, a suburb of Detroit. The Parker seniors were friends of my parents.

The time I had with the Parkers was great fun and I remember the whole family with much warmth. Bob Parker took me on my very own Michigan road trip in order to take in two towns that I just had to visit. The vehicle used for the journey was an eighties (I think) big block V8 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, a true piece of American heavy metal.

In the UK and when planning my post camp adventures I got an atlas off the shelf at home and had a look at Michigan. I was amazed to find that the towns of Adrian and Baldwin could be found within the boundaries of the state. I remember thinking that my trip couldn’t be complete without getting to both places! Bob Parker fuelled up the Chevy and drove us for hundreds of miles to meet my objective – I remain grateful to him to this day. The pictures that record the event are attached.
