More nuclear nonsense

I read this BBC article with a significant degree of frustration. Given the disaster at Fukushima and even today’s news that America's oldest nuclear power plant, Oyster Creek in New Jersey, has been on alert due to rising flood water, the Government here still thinks nuclear power is worth taking the risk with. Crikey, the Germans have abandoned nuclear power and the Japanese people/government are far from comfortable with nuclear power generation in their own country – why are we less reticent?

Cameron is wrong, this isn’t a vote of confidence in the UK; it is Hitachi cementing its own financial future whilst taking no risks within its home territories. And let me ask, how warm will the Government and the British public’s welcome be if things go wrong with the new power plants?

This announcement comes soon after the Government has put the nuclear deterrent back on the agenda with Trident related posturing.

I wish the politicians would put their collective wits into improving the lot of the nuclear family instead of focusing upon weapons and power. The child allowance cuts have been announced at the same time as this nuclear investment and I think that is clear evidence of the wrong priorities. Take tax benefits away from families in order to be able to fund the bill for this nuclear nonsense – it’s just madness!
