First class, ice-lolly cool, Cornwall & Catwoman

Of late, work and house move related matters have completely occupied my time (and to be frank have worn me out) - my blog has unintentionally suffered as a result. I just haven’t had the time to write and I duly apologise to any/all of my readers that have missed my posts/rants/wit over the last few weeks.

I can report that moving home has proved to be the most stressful and exhausting thing that my branch of the Baldwin family has experienced, perhaps ever, but certainly since the kids were born.

Frustratingly there has been plenty to write about. One day I may even get around to creating a moving-house series of posts to share the trials and tribulations, the excitement and emotional/physical pain associated with relocating and, perhaps more bizarrely, curtains and laminate flooring.

From a positive perspective though, reader engagements prompted by this website are on the rise and visitor numbers have been going up even without new content being published.

One such interaction has prompted this post because in the miasma of moving, a lady called Terena got in touch and lifted my spirits significantly.

After an email exchange, she sent me a lolly stick she had found on a beach in Cornwall. And not just any lolly stick…

…a Superman’s Superheroes, Catwoman stick from the nineteen seventies/eighties. These plastic treasures have been the subject of a number of posts since this site came into existence (see below).

Terena had unearthed Catwoman; done some internet research into her find; found my website and dropped me a line. For me, that was as cool as ice…

…as cool as ice-lolly in fact!

I was really chuffed to be contacted and even more made up when Terena sent me her beachcombing discovery (see photo). Here’s what I wrote to her after it arrived.

“Hi Terena,

Catwoman arrived yesterday and I am delighted with her. I got home from work at about 7pm last night and held a Superman’s Superheroes lolly stick for the first time in about 35 years (maybe a little more).

I felt a stupid degree of satisfaction from something so simple.

Thank you so much for making my day/week/month.

Best regards,

Adrian”

And I meant what I stated, Terena and I have never met and yet she showed me a kindness that I really appreciated. That kind of thing just doesn’t happen very often between strangers.

The best thing is that Terena found our exchange as rewarding as I did – she found a stick, made a new connection, created some joy and felt good for doing it.

All for a 5 inch piece of plastic and the cost of a first class stamp. Brilliant!

I just had to write about it.
